MAKING USE OF THE NEW STUDENT ASSESSMENT STANDARDS TO ENHANCE TECHNOLOGICAL LITERACY

The assessment of student learning is a pivotal component of effective teaching and learning. It supports an individual student's awareness of what knowledge and skills are important for his or her own technological literacy. It is useful for the teacher, supervisor, or administrator to identify areas needing additional emphasis or a different approach. It can point to the need for curricular revisions. It can document benefits for those not understanding the field and needing proof of efficacy. ITEA's Advancing Excellence in Technological Literacy: Student Assessment, Professional Development, and Program Standards points the way to assessment that is useful, accurate, valid, reliable, supportive of student learning, supportive of educators who are interested in technological literacy for all, and helpful to decision-making.
