摘要

When the author taught middle school, many of the students who were failing in traditional classes would come alive in technology class. These included girls and minorities. With technology education providing such wonderful opportunities for learning, one has to ask why there are so few women and minorities in the profession of technology education. How can the profession encourage more women and minorities to become technology teachers? Designing instruction that is even more appealing to females and minorities and deliberately reaching out to these populations may be part of the answer. While the International Technology Education Association has led special efforts to address diversity, more work and partnerships may be needed to more aggressively address the issue. As programs close, diversity has become an imperative.
