The state Senate voted April 9 to end the last vestiges of Public Service Commission oversight of landline service. AT&T "is pleased that the Alabama Senate recognizes that the market has changed," spokesman Hood Harris said. "The bill would allow our company to be on a more level playing field" by putting its landline services on the same regulatory footing as mobile and VoIP services, he said. The bill would end PSC control over basic residential service and phones used by businesses with four or fewer landlines.
