Autumn mists herald the conference season, and I attended a medical statistics conference this year, one I have attended, on and off, for more than 20 years. I also occasionally attend medical conferences, and the differences are obvious. In medical conferences the presenters are in suits and ties, there are vast numbers of trade stands, and plenty of freebies. In medical statistics conferences only the President wears a suit and tie, and the trade stands are limited to three book stalls.
