Until last year the sole survivors of each class of American P2 troop transports, USNS General Edwin D. Patrick and USNS General John Pope, languished together in a raft of outmoded vessels in the Suisuin Bay Reserve Fleet near San Francisco, California. But as part of a recent US Maritime Administration disposal programme that will have seen 57 redundant vessels removed from the fleet by 2017, both ships were sold for scrap in March 2010.
