As this issue was about to go to press, news came in from Jotun Paints that was too late to fit into this edition's coatings feature.rnThe Norwegian coatings supplier has developed a new antifoul-ing paint mixed specifically to suit vessels in lay up.rnCalled SeaQuantum Static, the new self smoothing and self polishing coating enables laid up vessels to re-enter operation without costly and time consuming dry dockings and is a claimed to be good solution for use in particularly demanding conditions, such as those encountered in warmer waters.rnIt is based on a combination of silyl acrylate polymers and bio-cides and is said to achieve better antifouling protection during lay-up with a higher film erosion rate. It is intended to be applied as a last coat on top of the antifouling system designed for trading.rnSeaQuantum Static also prevents transmigration of non-indigenous species in areas such as sea chests and bow, and stern thrusters.
