Dutchman Ed Kastelein a descendant of the founders of the Holland-America Line shipping company is managing the entire ambitious project. He has gathered copies of dozens of drawings of the original Atlantic from various archives in the USA. He has also studied hundreds of images of the original. Unfortunately, very few drawings of the interior have been preserved, but with the help of photographs Kastelein hopes be able to copy the colonial style and atmosphere of the original yacht.rnThe vessel is built for both luxury charter purposes and to participate in the classical boat races such as the famous Voiles de Saint Tropez.rnSince the launch of the steel hull at the Van der Graaf Yard on 15 March 2008, work has been progressing steadily. The Yanmar engine and generators have been fitted and the engine has been aligned. The Veth bowthruster is in place and hooked up. Hundreds of metres of pipes and tubes have been installed under the main floor. The deep wine glass shape hull gives her bilge standing headroom for more than 30m length. All bulkheads and separation walls are in place and miles of cable (literally) have been installed.
