Kort Propulsion has received an order to supply and equip a second batch of tug boats with propulsion equipment. The order, placed by an Egyptian client for 28 tugs of 7.5m loa apiece, follows on from 14 ordered by the same client in 2012 and marks a "milestone for the company", comments Kort Propulsion managing director David Parsons. "We've been working on this project for the last six years," Parsons adds. "It started with an order for one tug, 14 more in 2012 and now an additional 28. This new order is well into seven figures and gives us a good platform for further growth in the company". The latest tugs will be built to the same design specifications as the first batch, which was developed by Macduff Ship Design. Equipment supplied by Kort will include Deutz air-cooled engines, ZF gearboxes, shafting, four-bladed propellers, Kort nozzle rudders, steering gear, fenders, electrical controls and switchboards.
