Development of Anisotropic Conductive Film with Straight-chain-like Nickel Nano Particles

Anisotropic conductive film (ACF) is a film-like adhesive having conductive particles dispersed in epoxy or acrylic acid resin. It is used for the interconnection of electrodes on various substrates in the field of liquid crystal display (LCD) module packaging, such as interconnection of integrated circuit (IC) and glass substrate. Because LCD panels have recently become smaller, lighter and more functional, use of ACF is strongly required for fine-pitch electrodes. The authors have focused attention on Sumitomo Electric's unique conductive particles, which are the nickel nano particles having a straight-chain-like structure. Controlling their orientation in resin, the authors developed a new-concept ACF that enables the interconnection of fine-pitch electrodes. The characteristics and efficiency of this ACF are reported in this paper.
