End-February was due to see the re-opening of the Hong Kong Maritime Museum in new waterfront premises at Central Pier 8, a former Star Ferries terminal specially converted for the purpose. The HK chief executive was expected to attend, as a well as a glittering roll call of leading shipping names. The opening marks the culmination of an eight-month move by the museum staff into the new premises, some five times bigger than their former home in Stanley - and of much longer journey to find a permanent home since the idea of the HKMM was first mooted.
