Five killed in tanker blast

Five crew members are dead and six are missing after the chemical tanker Doola No 3 exploded off Jawol Island, near the port of Incheon, South Korea, in January. The 2002-built tanker, owned by Doola Shipping, was carrying 80t of marine fuel and 40t of diesel when it exploded, the coastguard said.A Doola staff member told SAS that its representative had travelled to Incheon to monitor rescue operations and could not comment further. The cargo ship usually carried clean products and chemicals. Doola said the blast appeared to have been sparked as gas was being drained from the ship. The impact of the explosion cracked the hull in two.
