◁Following the seizure of the UK-registered Stena Impero by Iran's Revolutionary Guard on 19 July, calls came from the UK government, maritime organisations, and unions and for British ships to avoid the Strait of Hormuz. They all urged caution and to not place vessels in unnecessary danger. The British government also raised its security to Level 3 in the Persian Gulf. Hopefully commercial interests do not outweigh the risk of putting crew and vessels in potential danger. Decisions to push on with voyages in the gulf and keep trade flowing in one of the world's most important oil trading routes will not be made by the people having to face the dangers first hand after all. What owners and managers might face, however, is their crew and vessel being seized - also a blow to their bottom line.
