ICS launches third edition of guidelines on MLC

The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) has launched the third edition of its book, Guidelines on the application of the ILO Maritime Labour Convention, which covers amendments made to Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) that entered into force since 2013. The new book includes MLC updates on mandatory arrangements for owners to cover any potential costs of seafarer abandonment, measures to prevent harassment and bullying, changes to employment agreements to address piracy, and new ICS and International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF) welfare guidelines. The section on welfare provision has been fully updated in line with increasing digitalisation and the changes in technology that affect the seafarer's workplace.
