Welder killed by collapsing crane load

A factory worker was crushed to death by a steel lifting frame being used to move a portable building, Liverpool Crown Court heard on 15 April. MRX Engineering Support Services, trading as Stackright Building Systems, was fined ￡100,000 and ordered to pay ￡16,941 in full costs having pleaded guilty to breaching s2(1) of HSWA 1974 by failing to ensure the safety of its employees at a previous hearing before Knowsley magistrates. The incident occurred on 8 March 2007. An overhead crane had been running inside the factory of the company, which manufactures modular steel outbuildings, in Kirby, near Liverpool. A rectangular steel lifting frame was used to attach the single hook from the crane by four chains to the four corners of the cabins.
