Health and safety should help, not hinder education

Experts gathered at an event in Leicester recently to discuss how health and safety in schools should help and not hinder a child's education. Health and safety professionals from schools, colleges and universities assembled at the IOSH Education Group's 'Embracing risk in education' event, in a bid to work towards removing the 'nanny state' label that the education system has in the UK. Fiona Riley, from the group, said: "Children should be able to experience a range of activities during their time at school and proportionate health and safety measures should help, rather than hinder. "It's important that children learn to understand and manage the risks that are a normal part of life, and that schools are able to support this learning through external trips and out-of-school activities."
