The Euro Truck Test, organised by our colleague Gerhard Gruenig from Trucker magazine in Germany, is a regular feature in the test calendar. This year there was a new challenge: manufacturers had to provide a truck capable of hauling a 32-tonne freighted triaxle curtainsider from Munich across the Alps via the famous Brenner Pass at 4,500ft high, down to the outskirts of Milan - and back again. The winner? The truck which best balances a high average speed with class-leading fuel economy.rnToday's heavy truck market comprises seven principal players, and of those five rose to the challenge. From Holland came Daf's XF105, and both Germany and Sweden were represented by two factories apiece: MAN brought a TGX and Merc an Actros, while the two Scandinavian firms sent a Scania R420 and a Volvo FH. Only the southern Europeans - Iveco and Renault - elected to stay at home, one of them pulling out at the last minute.
