Case study: George Mason University

In this case, George Mason University (GMU) selected a No. 6-labeled polystyrene material for use as reusable mugs, only after a careful analysis of the many factors was conducted. The key driver for this decision was simply the economic costs of the material.rnOne should note, Mason Dining does use many products made from compostable materials, such as cups and flatware. This is particularly true at Gold Rush, a mainly carry-out restaurant located within Southside, one of the university's newest dining facilities that feature a commitment to sustainability, GMU also utilizes biodegradable compostable items as part of its catering program, and is considering adding such items in other locations.
