Claimed to be the first Further Education college to be incorporated for more than two decades, a dedicated engineering training faculty for students aged 16 and over is to be opened by 2017 to support construction of the planned High Speed 2 network (RG 10.13 p30). Further Education covers the lifelong learning segment of the UK education sector, though most such colleges tend to focus on the 16 to 18-years age group. According to the Department for Transport, the HS2 skills college will require a 'multi-million pound investment' to train 'a generation of world-class engineers'.
