SBB has lined up alongside John Laing Investments Ltd. to obtain two franchises to operate railway lines in England. Laing is the main shareholder in M40 Trains Ltd., which is full owner of its subsidiary Chiltern Railways Ltd. The latter has been successfully operating a 270 km suburban railway network north of London for five years now. Laing Investments Ltd., M40 Trains Ltd and SBB have signed a contract in London setting out how they will go about jointly tendering for the Thames and Wessex network franchises.
