The train management system that Bombardier is offering for the Aventra would be used to identify emerging problems, such as door operation becoming slower, which should allow the driver to take remedial action without stopping the train.rnA feature adopted from the Spacium platform is the use of an Internet Protocol-based communications backbone linking on-train systems. Unlike early onboard train management systems, use of an IP data link should be more resistant to obsolescence and facilitaternupgrades over a 30-year service life. Operationally, IP will be more fault-tolerant, since by using a loop circuit data can be transmitted both ways, ensuring continuity in the event of a fault. It also simplifies the provision of additional onboard facilities such as wi-fi.rnBombardier highlights passenger information systems as one beneficiary of the IP backbone. As well as providing real-time journey information, 'highly configurable' flat screen displays could be used to direct passengers to sections of the train where seats were available, as detected by load-weighing technology.
