DfT defends Northern fare changes

DfT Rail Executive Director General Clare Moriarty has defended restrictions on the validity of discounted off-peak fares at Northern, which have proved controversial since their introduction on September 8 (RB1469 p4). Speaking to RBI on November 5, Moriarty said that one thing she knows 'for certain' is that the Treasury would not be providing any additional funding to support regional passenger services, and '1 keep telling this to all the franchise owning groups'.
