Metrolink returns to Victoria

Manchester Metrolink services will resume calling at Manchester Victoria on February 18, following the completion of work to modify the platforms and track layout to increase capacity for the Second City Crossing. Managed and delivered by Network Rail as a key element of its programme to rebuild Manchester Victoria, the work has seen a reduced Metrolink service operate on a single line without stopping. From February 18 Metrolink services from Bury and Rochdale will terminate at the new Victoria stop, while through services to Shu-dehill, Market Street and beyond are expected to resume on February 21. This will enable a 6 min frequency to be restored between Bury and Manchester city centre. 'The completion of and reopening of the tram stop at Manchester Victoria is a milestone in the redevelopment of the station', said NR Area Director Ian Joslin. 'To allow us to complete the work, there will be disruption to tram services between February 14 and 21 and we apologise for that. However, the result will ultimately be a better tram service with better connections to the railway as part of the stunning new Manchester Victoria station'.
