In the concluding instalment of the current DXTV Special series, Keith Hamer and Garry Smith examine the progress of the Telstar space probe, and of satellite technology in general, from the Cold War to the present day. In Part 1 of this article, we looked at what became known as the 'Space Race' between the USSR and the USA. The winner was Russia with its Sputnik-1 spacecraft, not to mention later exploits with the first dog in space, followed swiftly by cosmonaut, Yuri Gagarin, being blasted off into the unknown {RadioUser, March 2019:36-38).
