Asphalt firm fined after worker's arm amputated

A Durham asphalt firm has been fined after a worker suffered serious injuries and had to have his arm amputated when he fell into dangerous machinery at an asphalt production plant. On 18 June 2009, John Wyatt, who was employed by Tynedale Roadstone Ltd, had been carrying out an inspection of the conveyor area at the company's premises on the Newburn Haugh Industrial Estate, in Newcastle, when the incident happened.
