That early nineties phenomena, the Video Toaster, is back. With new inroads in Web TV and local restricted sen/ice licence television, this time it promises to be more than a vanity publisher, as Tim Danaher discovers. Considering the success of the original Video Toaster, a hardware add-on for the Amiga, NewTek has taken almost five years to get its equivalent out for the PC. Until recently, NewTek's main focus has been its animation and effects software, LightWave (see previous page), which initially shipped as an adjunct to the Video Toaster, but has now gone on to be one of the most widely-used packages in film and broadcast.
