Clutch control and vibration reduction for a hybrid electric vehicle

This paper reports the results of a study that develops another strategy to control the clutch engagement and slip of hybrid electric vehicles using fuzzy logic. This is an extension of a previous paper by Minh et al. on a predictive model controller for the clutch of a hybrid electric vehicle. The new controller for clutch engagement and slip has been tested with vehicle vibration reduction in critical frequencies. Results show that adjusting the clutch slip and increasing the clutch damping considerably reduce the vehicle vibration in critical frequencies. The new control system can handle the clutch engagement adequately with low jerk and high comfort. The study offers useful contributions to the development of clutch automation strategies for hybrid electric vehicles.
