In Europe more than 40% of printing plates intended for newspaper offset rotaries are imaged digitally. Thus, the European newspaper houses have become global leaders in computer to plate. Anyone, who is thinking of entering the CtP business or to replace their existing CtP equipment, should do so, bearing a number of facts in mind. Investment and operating costs, plate throughput and an assured production quality are important criteria while selecting a digital printing plate imaging system. Moreover, with the kind of revolutionary changes, that are taking place in the newspaper market and in the newspaper itself, the concept of using the appropriate technology to produce high quality (magazines, commercial printing etc.) in cold-set web offset printing is gaining ground. The rapid increase in the use of digital plate imaging since the later half of nineties can be attributed to two peculiar factors.
