Although the primary purpose of revalidationn(recertification and relicensing) is to demonstratenthat doctors on the GP register continue to meet thenstandards that apply to the discipline of general practicen– thereby encouraging improvements in the qualitynof patient care – a secondary purpose is to promotencontinuing professional development (CPD) amongnGPs. The way you approach and record CPD is key tonthese aims; you will need to show that the CPD younundertake is both relevant to your clinical practicenand demonstrate that it has resulted in reflection andnperhaps change in practice.nWe all learn in different ways and over the years wenhave not recognised the value of individual, personalnand practice-based learning. How much do we thinknabout the contribution our patient consultations andnother aspects of our daily work make to our own CPD?nThe Royal College of General Practitionersn(RCGP) is developing a CPD scheme that will benapplicable to all GPs in the UK and those RCGP membersnworking overseas. It is important that the CPDnscheme will be suitable for GPs working as a partner, nsalaried GPs and sessional and locum GPs working inna variety of practices, as well as those working full- andnpart-time and those taking a career break.
