摘要

A simple and novel control strategy for damping electromechanicalnoscillations through control of power converter firing angles Αn1 and Α2 of a superconducting magneticnenergy storage (SMES) unit is proposed. Both active and reactive powernmodulations are used under unequal Α-mode of operation. The choicenof unequal mode is discussed in detail. The gains of the proposed SMESncontroller are determined once offline depending on the power system andnthe rating of the SMES unit. Simulation results show that the SMES unitncan effectively suppress power system oscillations by utilizing itsnactive and reactive power modulation capabilities. The control algorithmnis simple and its realization will require very little hardware
