摘要

Chromium (Cr) is a metal contaminant that exists in nature primarily a soluble highly toxic Cr (Ⅵ) and common among the heavy metal pollutants of industrial effluents. The main objective of the study is to recover chromium reducing bacterial isolates from industrial effluent near agricultural land, Lands of Sambalpur, India by using enrichment method. The isolate was selected based on its chromium reduction capacity at different biochemical parameters. The Potential strains were identified by the help of morphological and biochemical characterization. The results of our study indicate toxicity of Potassium chromate is maximum (88.23%) reduced at 1mM concentration, whereas 54.09% at 2mM, 36% at 4mM and 25.9% at 6mM concentrations. We found 97 % reduction at pH 9 and 100% reduction with an optimal temp, with temperature 30℃, whereas 87.5% in temperature 37℃. Further we found 91.6% reduction with Glucose as substrate at 1%, whereas 77.7% reduction with 0.5% Glucose. The isolated bacteria species is tolerant to Erythromycin (10 μg) and Fusidic acid (10μg) and also least potential tolerant to elevated chromium concentrations.
