In the beginning, there was Section 5: A light-hearted look at the trials and trivialisations of running the first Section 5 and Section 6 courses

It all started during the latter part of 1986 and early 1987, when the Society of Chiropodists produced a proposed syllabus that was to become known as the Ambulatory Foot Surgery Syllabus (April 1987), covering both the academic section (Section 5) and the syllabus for the practical surgical course (which would become known as Section 6). Both courses were originally planned to run as modular training sessions over a period of years. When the syllabuses were published, I like many others was excited by the prospect of at last being able to carry out surgical procedures. But, as time went on and nothing happened, I came to the conclusion that it was going to take the Society years to get the course up and running - if at all. And it would probably also take years to complete the course.
