Indonesia's PLN secures loans for new coal plants

Indonesia's state-owned power utility, PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara, has signed loan agreements with 23 local banks worth Rupiah 4.723 trillion ($434 million) to finance the construction of 13 coal-fired power plants, according to a senior official. The plants will be located outside of the densely populated island of Java and are part of the government's 10,000 MW project.rnPLN is expected to invite bids for 3 million mt/year of 4,500 kcal/kg coal under 20-year contracts starting by as early as this year. The total coal needed for the 10,000 MW project is about 30 million mt/year and PLN is thought to have secured around 90% of it.
