Garona in the balance

The nuclear safety council (CSN) recommended June 8 granting the 466-MW Santa Marfa de Garona nuclear power station a 10-year extension after its 40-year limit is reached in 2011, but at press time the socialist government - which has the final say - was divided over a decision that will probably determine the future of nuclear energy in Spain.
