Georgia's Five Big Power Projects

Georgia's rehabilitation is overwhelmingly due to the restoration works at Enguri, but its prospects of becoming a major exporter to markets from Syria and Iraq to Turkey and the Balkans rests on the implementation of five major projects. These are:rn1. The Namakhvani Cascade. A consortium of the Korean Power Company, Turkey's Nurol Holding and the South Korean engineering company, SK, is currently finalizing a feasibility study for this 450 MW project. This will be followed by detailed design and construction. Estimated costs are put at $800 million and completion is envisaged around 2018.rn2. The Khordoni Dam and Reservoir. The London-based Indian shareholder Continental Energy is developing this 750 MW project. It is currently finalizing a feasibility study. Estimated costs are put at $700 million and completion is expected in 2016-17. Actual construction was begun more than 20 years ago in the Soviet era. The Georgian energy ministry says around 20% of the works were completed then.
