Spanish parliament approves gas clawback law for non-thermal generators

Spain’s parliament approved Oct. 14 a bill that will oblige power marketparticipants to pay back windfall gains from the wholesale power market.The so-called “gas clawback” tax was approved by 182 votes to 152in the Spanish Lower House, approving legislation that will look to bringdown domestic bills to 2018 level.The government announced Sept. 15 a series of temporarymeasures including a “clawback” of income from non-thermalgeneration (nuclear, hydro, non-subsidized renewables) when the gasprice is over Eur20/MWh.
