Planning through projects: moving from master planning to strategic planning

Make no mistake about it, this is an ambitious book: 30 cities across the world, 37 contributors and illustrated text packed into 560 pages. The aim of it all is to demonstrate how globalisation is transforming not simply the form and function of cities but the way they are planned. Instead of relying on master plans, with the future mapped out on a drawing board, the prospects of cities now rest more on their ability to attract major projects. Not that everything is left to chance, for the modern planner still has a part to play, albeit with a lighter touch and strategic oversight.
