On August 1, 2009, comprehensive and sweeping changes to the U.S. government's Gl Bill took effect. The new "Post-9/11 Gl Bill" introduces the most extensive educational-assistance opportunity since the original bill was passed in 1944. In essence, the new bill allows every eligible veteran, service member and reservist an opportunity to receive an undergraduate education at a public institution, at no cost.
