In this paper, we study the coverage probability and the average rate of a user in a cellular network whose fading channel is compound and employs the soft frequency reuse technique for inter-cell interference mitigation. We consider that the location of the base stations is modeled as Poisson point process and the fading channel is assumed to be distributed as Nakagami-Lognormal, i.e., Nakagami-m fading and Lognormal shadowing. We also assume that the network is in an interference-limited scenario where the thermal noise is ignored comparing with the interference. Unlike the previous research in this context, we analytically derive the coverage probability without any numerical integration and obtain a simple expression for the average rate. These analyses allow us to predict the value of the received signal-to-interference ratio for a given target performance under general channel parameters. In addition, we evaluate these metrics in terms of different network parameters and observe the validity of our analytical results in the simulation examples at the end. (C) 2019 Elsevier B.V.
