This paper presents an overwiew of anaerobic bacterias metabolites and their effects on Microbially Improved Oil recovery (MIOR). Chemical analysis methods for coexisting gas-, water-, and oil phases of MIOR field tests or laboratory experiments are described for mixtures of potential metabolites of anaerobic microorganisms. The obtained data are compared with literature values. The metabolites in the gas- and oil phases are determined qualitatively and quantitatively in the water phases. GC, HPLC, GC/MS measurements for metabolites and additionly biopolymer, biosurfactant, and sugar determinations were described. The accuracy of the several analysis methods and their application limits are critically discussed.
