3M Company is keen to speed up the cruise ship disembarkation process by launching automated passport control (APC) kiosks to reduce immigration queues. The company has already helped launch such kiosks -where the passport is scanned and vetted and the required information is printed onto a piece of paper - in the airline industry. If all the information meets the border agency's requirements, the passenger can hand the paper to the immigration agent without the need to answer any questions. This process has slashed immigration time by more than half. 3M works with US-headquartered Precocity on this solution, as Precocity produces APC kiosk solutions.
