We present the theoretical analyses and experimental results of a new phase-coded multiplexing method in this report. This multiplexing technique exploits a rotating cylindrical-collimating lens system (RCCLS) modified by a random phase transparent mask. Our experimental results have shown that such a system is capable of storing over 1000 images in one spot of a doped LiNbO3 crystal, and its holographic reconstructing process is very sensitive to the rotating angle a of RCCLS. Since the reference beam corresponding to each a consists of light waves with random wave vectors in spatial domain and random phases (both generated by the random phase mask), it makes the image reconstruction virtually impossible without the original reference "key" in this multiplexing scheme. This unique feature can be used to implement a compact, all optical, secure and high capacity volume holographic memory system.
