Starting in 2015, infection by the Zika virus exploded across Brazil, Latin America, and the Caribbean. Zika is spread usually by the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which lives in subtropical climates (although recent studies have shown that Zika can also be transmitted sexually). Thanks to climate change, the mosquito's range has expanded north into the United States, especially southern Florida and south Texas. By the summer of 2016, A. aegypti may spread as far north as New York state ("On the Seasonal Occurrence and Abundance of the Zika Virus Vector Mosquito Aedes aegypti in the Contiguous United States," Andrew J.
