KONGSBERG TESTS MULTI-TEAM OFFSHORE BROADBAND SYSTEM

Kongsberg Seatex has successfully tested its new maritime broadband system, which was developed as a competitive alternative to satellite communications for offshore vessels. Kongsberg worked with Norwegian authorities in the North Sea during the summer to test its maritime broadband radio (MBR) on multiple vessels. The Norwegian Coastal Administration (NCA), Norwegian Coast Guard and the Norwegian Clean Seas Association for Operating Companies (NOFO) took part in a comprehensive full-scale exercise using MBR for monitoring oil around the Frigg field. These organisations concluded that MBR enabled multiple teams to work simultaneously with seamless data, voice and high definition video transmissions.
