TOPAZ INVESTS AS VESSEL OWNERS GAIN FRESH WORK

There is still confidence in the offshore vessel market in the Middle East, as there are long-term tenders underway and recent contract awards. Topaz Energy & Marine showed its confidence in the offshore vessel sector when it invested in building its subsea fleet. It is to acquire two modern subsea vessels from Vard Brattvaag, Norway, at a purchase price of around US$115 million. Topaz intends to utilise these VARD 3 08 design vessels for light subsea construction and intervention duties when they are delivered in the third and fourth quarters of 2017. The DP2 class vessels will have a 120 tonne crane with the ability to reach working depths of 3,000m. Both vessels will be prepared for two ROVs, deployed via a launch and recovery system. The ships will be built according to the SPS regulations and can accommodate up to 82 people . Topaz chief executive Rene Kofod-Olsen said this demonstrated how the company could take advantage of lower costs for new vessels.
