AROUND two-thirds of healthcare workers did not take up the offer of a free seasonal flu jab last winter, according to Department of Health data. Hospital nurses and midwives are among the health workers least likely to have the jab (around 30% do), followed by doctors excluding GPs (37%), GPs (38%); and GP practice nurses (45%). Overall, the number of healthcare workers getting the vaccine increased last year, from 26.4% in 2009 to 34.7%.
