Twenty-eight Remploy factories have either been closed or merged as part of a radical overhaul in the way the organisation supports disabled people into employment. Remploy says that 1,458 people were affected by the closures, with 629 taking voluntary redundancy and 350 taking early retirement with a redundancy payment. However, the CMB union claims that'2,500 disabled workers will be put out of work across the Remploy network of factories'and that'most will not work again'.
