TURNER GIVES UP TOP SPOT ON HOUSE STRATEGIC FORCES SUBCOMMITTEE

Rep. Michael Turner (R-Ohio), who has emerged as the most outspoken voice in the House on nuclear weapons policy issues, is leaving his post as the chairman of the House Armed Services Strategic Forces Subcommittee to take the top spot on the committee's Tactical Air and Land Forces Subcommittee. Turner will be replaced by Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Ala.), but he will remain on the Strategic Forces subcommittee and he is expected to remain active on strategic issues. Rogers has been an outspoken supporter of missile defense plans, but is a relative newcomer to nuclear weapons policy issues. Democratic leadership on the subcommittee have not announced its subcommittee leadership.
