Government Must Overhaul Stalled Nuclear Waste Management Policy

A White House commission charged with finding long-term solutions for storing the nation's spent nuclear fuel has concluded that the government must overhaul its stalled nuclear waste management policy and quickly begin developing at least one permanent geological repository and at least one centralized interim storage facility. To do that, the report calls for creating a new organization "dedicated solely to implementing the waste management program and empowered with the authority and resources to succeed."
