摘要

This could be a transformative year for renewable energy in India, where the opportunities and challenges are huge, especially for the growing solar power sector. India's Ministry of New and Renewable Energy is working on a National Renewable Energy Act, slated to be presented to Parliament in 2016. It is intended to provide the legislative framework for India to reach its newly announced 2030 renewable energy target. Once enacted, the law would provide for policies to facilitate increasing the use of renewable energy nationally and broadly-in electricity grids, as well as for heat and transportation. Experts emphasize that the new law must build on India's success in solar and wind power, and must advance national initiatives to bring power to a large part of the country (an estimated 300 million people, or about a quarter of its population) that still lacks reliable electricity.
