India Proposes Waste Management Overhaul Of Biomedical, Plastic, Municipal, E-Waste

India's environment ministry has proposed draft rules that would overhaul waste management practices for households and many businesses. Under the measures, the government would institute charges for households and businesses for waste collection and disposal. It also would recognize the role of the informal trash collector, particularly rag-pickers, to enable decentralized recycling and trash treatment. Every household and institutional waste generator would be responsible for segregating and storing waste in three separate bins: biodegradable, non-biodegradable and domestic hazardous wastes.
